Motivation Nuggets

Focus!

I had a conversation with my friend Leah Maseko the other day when we had our catch-up lunch meeting. our talk was was nothing new but something that a lot of people go through at some point in their life, being it in general life or work-life. The moment you feel drained, feeling that you have outgrown a place or a position, feeling tired and almost like you can’t take it anymore. When it is no longer benefiting you, bearing fruit and growth are a thing of the past. That moment of stretching, being unable to wake up in the morning, motivation so less, morale at its lowest, out of inspiration and just a feeling of being stuck. I know; It is a horrible place to be in because one would feel like life is passing you by while others are advancing. It feels like a life without purpose. To some, it plays on their happiness and productivity. As draining as the situation can be a decision should be taken. I remember I was once caught up in such a time like this, and you can really sink in the shallow places of your thoughts and feel like life is a punishment. But I can tell you, FOCUS is all you need.

We need to come to a point where you center yourself, ask your self why did you start, why did you apply for that position or that course, why are you serving where you are serving? and what is keeping you there, then take the decision to FOCUS. To FOCUS on the life you lead, on the dream, on the goal, be unstoppable by people/excuses/situations & circumstances. In the midst of chaos there is an opportunity to FOUS and get your life together. Wake up from that bed, from a shallow emotionally drained position, start seeing what has this situation turned you to be or be at. If you were starting to come to work late, change that, be accountable and arrive on time and leave on time. Do that filing you have put for months, do those minutes you have been dreading to do. Go to the gym and stop paying only and not utilizing your membership. Apply yourself and force yourself to move out of self-pity but find opportunities to be great.

Thing is we forget that we might feel like we have outgrown a place or a position, thinking not that it might be, we have not given fully our expertise in that area or place. It is not only about your growth, sometimes it is about the growth of the place you have been placed at (work/church/school/community). You might be there to teach or share with others in that place you deem dead. Find the purpose of why you are where you are. It is all about living in the moment. Truly open your eye, see the small victories each day. Helping someone with a report, or standing in for them at that meeting, or even through small chats of venting (Colleague to a colleague) you are set to be a solution, you might not feel like it but it is never about your feelings (Feelings are never reliable, they change often) it is about what you have in your hands. There is a song by Alvin Slaughter called That’s when, part of the lyrics says “What’s that you have in your hands, I can use it, if you are willing to lose it”. What is that which is in your hands, in your thoughts, it might be a skill, might be knowledge or wisdom, it might be kindness and a servant’s heart, an idea or even strategy. Shift your mind from being a receiver or victim and rather a giver. Use what you have in your hands/ time and see your life change.

“A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men”. _Proverbs 18:16 (KJV)

Serve others through your gift (Skill, expertise, experience, talents, knowledge & wisdom) See great doors open. You might feel lost in the beginning but that’s just the beginning, prepare! you are about to advance. Someone is looking, someone is paying attention, someone is propelled to approach you and give you that big break, that sponsor is headhunting and might just notice you and when you are not watching at the right time when you have stopped complaining and mammering when you have a FOCUSed Gaze it is when the new door of opportunity swings open. Now! clean house, move all disappointment and disapproval of others to stand in your way but mostly your own, specifically your belief that is shaped by hurt, long waiting and suffering. You are a masterpiece and I wish you remember that you are destined for greater things!

“You can Bloom wherever you’re planted, if you put enough effort into it”. _ Hilary Clinton
